MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE
FALLOUT
AKA
"no really, he does all his own stunts!!"
PG-13 / 2 hrs 27 mins
Action / Paramount
WHAT'S THE DEAL
Mission movies have been doing bonkers stunts since '96, and they only kept getting bigger (crazier?); Fallout, sixth in series, appears to keep that trend going, with reviews saying it might be the best of 'em.
And because the story is secondary here (stolen plutonium, really?), let's list the activities Mr. Cruise got into for this one:
Broke his ankle jumping between tall buildings
Flew a helicopter (yes, he flew it) in crazy tight canyon
Planted himself on nearly 2,000 ft Norwegian fjord cliff
Climbed, and fell from, a rope attached to a moving helicopter
Did 106 high altitude (i.e. oxygen masks) skydive jumps, reaching speeds of 220 MPH
So go, have fun, enjoy yourself. But be forewarned, an unintended consequence of viewing is a diminished feeling of badassness gained after that one time you went to the bouldering gym and climbed (read: struggled) to the top. :/
Notes: almost all of the cast is back (including Michelle Monaghan from #3), except Jeremy Renner, but Henry Cavill (Superman) joins. Same director as last one too.
REVIEWS
Pretty darn enthusiastic and as expected, focused on stunts and fun.
"It delivers. More than that, it's become the rare franchise that seems to just get better, twistier, and more deliriously fun with each installment." - Entertainment Weekly

TEEN TITANS GO!
TO THE MOVIES
AKA
"stop telling people what to do! ...oh wait"
PG / 1 hr 32 mins
Comedy-Family-Animation-Action / Warner Bros
WHAT'S THE DEAL
It may look like a kids cartoon, and it is, but it's also a satirical takedown of the superhero genre, using secondary superhero DC characters like Robin & Cyborg.
Pixar it ain't, but nothing wrong with that, as it satisfies that more off kilter, hyper-meta tone (oddly, think Deadpool) that can work if done well, which per reviews, this one is.
You probably didn't even know it existed, but any kid you know aged 8-13 probably did - don't ask 'em about it though as they'll inevitably make you feel like a silly old dumb dumb head for not knowing.
REVIEWS
Really good, even great. Noting well done satire, intelligence and fun it has with the topic matter.
"It's no small compliment to say that the feature film derived from Teen Titans Go!, a popular children's animated series, often proves far more enjoyable than the grown-up superhero blockbusters it spoofs." - Hollywood Reporter
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

OUR TAKE
Had zero expectations, but decently intrigued after reading the reviews. Plus, the superhero genre really could use some piss taken out of it at this point, so we're all for it.

INDIE"ISH" SPOTLIGHT
HOT SUMMER NIGHTS
AKA
"really good release timing"
R / 2 hrs
Drama / A24
WHAT'S THE DEAL
It's a first time director's stylishly shot, 1980's set, drug & sex driven plot movie starring one of last year's Best Actor Oscar nominees (Timothée Chalamet).
Also has cachet w/ being distributed by A24, the studio that released Moonlight, Lady Bird, Hereditary and bunch of other really acclaimed movies.
All of those are things, but it doesn't mean the movie is good, only noteworthy. We'll let you watch the trailer and decide with those factoids in mind.
REVIEWS
Not many out there, but what's there are split, with Chamalet getting love regardless (and often the focus of the positive reviews).
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 46%
(13 reviews @ publish)
OUR TAKE
Unsure. It's the director's first flick so we're willing to give some leniency. We weren't exactly taken with the story after seeing the trailer, but sometimes the vibe is enough to carry a movie.

DISNEY'S CHRISTOPHER ROBIN
Pooh comes to ask his friend who is all growed up for help, but learns Christopher needs some too.
THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME
Mila Kunis & Kate McKinnon get caught up in some spy stuff. They are not spies, but they are good at video games. Also has Jamie from Outlander.
THE DARKEST MINDS
Think X-Men meets The Hunger Games. Kiddos get super powers, adults do not like kiddos w/ super powers and round them up. Some escape and fight back. Based on YA book.
INDIE"ISH" SPOTLIGHT
NEVER GOIN BACK
Think Superbad crossed with Spring Breakers, i.e. raunchy comedy with a kinda (intentional) grimy vibe. Also A24 if you're countin' - swear we don't work for them.
