Y'all heard of Filmstruck? It's where the movie nerds go to watch a lot of great classic films - and it's goin away.
Some people are trying to stop it from dying, including you if you want, (you'll be just like Guillermo Del Toro).
But beyond the campaign effort, it's noteworthy because it's a good example of the consequences of media company consolidation (AT&T bought Time-Warner recently). And as the old companies try to compete with Netflix, they have to appeal to more people. E.g. Disney and Warner are launching streaming services to compete with "the flix" next year - and who knows, maybe all the Filmstruck stuff gets integrated into Warner's?
But who knows isn't good enough for some, so you can guarantee those cinefiles are gotta get heard.

WHAT'S THE DEAL
Why? As in "why does this movie even exist?" you may ask. Money? Creative desire? A film exec's extreme penchant for the color green? Sorry, but we can't provide that answer. Plus, asking why will get you nowhere; studios will continually reboot, remake, rethink, re-whatever for as long as movies exist. Just know that this "re" comes from the people who made Despicable Me, Minions and The Secret Life of Pets and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the unhappy one.
It's a "modern version" for all that that entails: it's bright, it's good looking, it's sharp in its wit, Max the dog gets another compatriot in a hefty reindeer, and in the most modern of modern, Tyler the Creator made the soundtrack (if you're unaware, check this NSFW music video).
But don't worry, The Grinch is still (relatively) mean and unhappy. A better question to ask is if you think you'll be too once you go see him steal Christmas.

WHAT'S THE DEAL
It's like that slightly off putting, a little dangerous, kinda sexy, but always intriguing kid you knew, but haven't seen in a while and when you do they're still sorta edgy, but like not really. And they've got a bunch of new friends you never would've expected them to hang with. You still like chillin with them, you guess, it's still a decent time, but like, different. When you ask them (a bit disappointedly) why all the changes, they just shrug and say "Hard to get a decent paying job with a foot tall mohawk. And ya gotta make that money at some point bro, ya know?"
Oh, we know.
Facts: David Fincher isn't directing anymore - Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Sanders is out, Claire Foy (The Crown) is in - Daniel Craig out too - they skipped ahead in the book series (1st to 4th) to the first one not written by the original author (who died after the third book) where Lizbeth has to deal with her sister as her nemesis.
REVIEWS
Became more of a traditional action movie, with Lizbeth in not quite superhero territory, but apparently getting too close for some.
Overall seems like you'll have a decent time if you're intrigued.

Do you hate Nazis? Of course you do!
Do you think Nazis who create zombies are the worst? Damn right sucka!!
Do you want to see their stupid zombie creatin' Nazi faces shot and melted off with frickin machine guns and flamethrowers??!
......?
Your response to this third question is also your answer to whether you should see this movie.
Notes/Fun Facts: was produced by JJ Abrams, which means something, but again, maybe up to you as to how much. For as big of a deal as JJ Abrams is, you'd think he would've directed more than five theatrical movie releases. Yup, five.

Calling it a solid A, B-movie.

"that WIG tho..."

WHAT'S THE DEAL
It's a story from the past to help us learn about the present - at least that's the goal.
Jason Reitman (Juno, Tully, Up in the Air) directs Hugh Jackman in a deliciously goofy wig playing Gary Hart, the ahem, front runner, for the 1988 democratic prez nom until he withdrew from the campaign due to reports of infidelity.
It's cited as a moment when political reporting and "gossip reporting" merged. Good thing it unmerged right after that eh? Dealing with that beast in the modern era would be awful...
:/
REVIEWS
Reitman has been a bit hit or miss recently (mostly miss), but last year's Tully was great. Looks like this one has split the difference and is fairly well done, if not overachieving.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 68%

WHO'S IT (NOT) FOR?
For: those curious about political history / want some fast moving West Wing type drama
(Not): for people who can't name the three branches of government (it's waaaaay more than you think)
