Can the internet freeze?

"Where are his glasses?
He can't see without his glasses!"
We're at the Sundance Film Festival for the first time and while we weren't able to see most (read: any) of the big movies that people are talking about, we did get to see a bunch of really weird shit. Some of which is unmentionable because of "the childrenZ."
NOTES: Velvet Buzzsaw, a Netflix movie (also playing at Sundance) from director of Nightcrawler is releasing this weekend in limited theaters, but also on Netflix. Also, Peter Jackson's WW I doc (all from original footage restored in color) They Shall Not Grow Old is expanding too. Both have lots of positive recommendations.

WHAT'S THE DEAL
This one has some "noteworthies" goin for it. Based on a well received Mexican film about a woman abducted by a drug cartel, who uses her whits and strengths to fight back in anyway she can to free herself. Stars Gina Rodriguez, the always enjoyable to watch star of the TV show Jane the Virgin, who is a rare female Latinx lead in a Hollywood movie. It was shot almost entirely in Tijuana and was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who did the first Twilight movie.
And yet... the feeling of familiarity we get from this one is not the kind we like. While we can't say for sure how it turned out since reviews are non-existent at this point (never a good sign), our breath is being exhaled freely waiting for them to come out. But hey, it's a January movie, expectations are already low, feel free to support call us out for not giving it enough of a shot.

WHAT'S THE DEAL
This one is simple. It's about survival. Nay, it is survival. Onscreen. But surviving is not simple.
How conveniently contradictory.
Mads Mikkelsen (bad guy in Casino Royale) is whose efforts to survive a plane crash you will sadistically enjoy if you choose to watch. And enjoy you likely will (see reviews).
REVIEWS
"Yet with barely any dialogue, traditional storytelling methods or even a cute pet or inanimate object to help, director Joe Penna and star Mads Mikkelsen have made a riveting and precisely plotted film worthy of other greats in the genre." - AP

WHO'S IT (NOT) FOR?
For: those who read every news story about people escaping near death experiences (or even those who didn't escape)
(Not): for people who think The West Wing had too little dialogue / hate the cold so much they don't even like being warm while looking at it

COLD PURSUIT
Liam Neeson(s) as a snow plow driver, who kills people (for revenge), after some drug people kill his son. Of course it's a dark comedy! More surprising is the good early reviews.
LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART
Pretty self explanatory eh?
THE PRODIGY
Smart kid. Evil kid. Is same kid. You think we're holdin out on you, we are not.
WHAT MEN WANT
Taraji P. Henson gets the ability to read the minds of men. Good thing she works at a sports agency where she... works with a bunch of men!
A DOG'S JOURNEY
May 17, 2019
You'd be forgiven for confusing this with A Dog's Way Home, but this is actually a sequel to A Dog's Purpose. All of them are based on books, by the same author. And they're basically just dog movies to make you cry. Same same, but different.

Zac Efron plays Ted Bundy and apparently does a better job than you might of thought - but overall movie reactions are split. Focuses a lot on his relationship with his longtime girlfriend (Lily Collins). Premiered at Sundance and reviews are solid.
