WHAT'S THE DEAL
Being unaware of this movie's existence is equivalent to being oblivious to the joys of banana brussel sprouts salad.
......? 🤢
Fine. Bad example. But our point is clear (is it?); which is that you have to actively try to avoid a Marvel movie at this stage of pop culture. Especially when the name of the movie is Captain... MARVEL. You likely also know it stars Brie Larson as the first woman (barring technicalities) to headline a Marvel movie after 20 instances with men as lead villain puncher.
So what are some things you may not know that you want to know: well, it takes place in 1995 (with grunge rock in tow). Samuel L. Jackson is in it, like actually in it, not just slipping in for cameos. In fact, Larson and Jackson are basically a regular ol comedy duo throughout much of it. Also notable is how Samuel L. was "de-aged" by 20+ years - and it doesn't seem to suck. Larson also splits screentime with a bunch of other names, like Jude Law, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan and Ben Mendelsohn (bad guy, of course). Add on top of that that it's directed by Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden who made Half-Nelson and you've got cred to shred (<-- sorry).
Yeah yeah yeah, but is it good you ask? And does it matter we retort? If you're asking, you're already going, so who cares? Go and form your own opinion (and skip Reviews below if you don't want to be influenced).
But understood, this is "not just another Marvel movie." It has weight in how Black Panther had weight (similarities, but also different). But that's why it may be even better to go and get your own take eh? /shrug
As for the plot? Come on, all the Marvel things will happen. Evil aliens, cranky but ultimately good aliens. Face punches. Chest punches. Building punches. A setup for the next Avengers. Self aware jokes. Drill <> you know. Plus, Disney asked reviewers not to share plot details so if you watch the trailer, you know as much as the next guy. Us = next guy.
REVIEWS
Marvel wasn't gonna fuck this up, and they didn't. However. People are not raving, even if they're mostly recommending it. So if you were expecting another Best Picture Oscar nominated entry like Black Panther, don't count on it.
"As shaky and unfocused as "Captain Marvel" often seems, it manages to reach its destination with confidence. In the end, Larson sticks the landing, albeit with something more muted than absolute triumph." - Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

WHO'S IT (NOT) FOR?
For: ...the bulk of America? Hell, at this point that's barely an exaggeration
(Not): ....? sorry, still thinking. Got it. People who disdain superhero movies

"Julianne Moore is very good at THE ACTING"
R / 1 hr 42 mins
Comedy-Romance / A24
WHAT'S THE DEAL
This is a "normal" movie.
Julianne Moore plays a relatively normal woman dealing with normal everyday stuff: kids, work, love, self-exploration, divorce. See, totally normal right?
What is most certainly not normal is the fact there is a movie about Gloria and her normalcy. Sure, there are slice of life relationship movies, and too many to count men transitioning into "manhood" movies. But a woman close to midlife who has depth and her story doesn't turn into a Hallmark card? Nah, that doesn't happen. So yeah, this movie may be about normal, but it ain't normal at all.
NOTE: it's a remake by the original director, Sebastián Lelio (also same director of A Fantastic Woman, which won the Best Foreign Language Oscar last year).
REVIEWS
Adore it. Mostly because they say it's multilayered, really good acting (specifically Moore) and that it shows a life not often shown on screen.
"Extraordinary in its ordinariness, it's an empathetic portrait of a life that women around the world are living every day but rarely get to see on screen." - Katie Rife, AV Club
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%

WHO'S IT (NOT) FOR?
For: those who rarely see themselves on screen in this way for starters, but really anyone who likes simple well done stories about complicated life things
(Not): for those who need a clearly defined villain in their cinematic experience

FIVE FEET APART
Two teens want to be together but damn their stupid... parents? Nope. Location? Newp. Ideological differences?! Nah. Terrible awful disease that makes close contact deadly (i.e. cystic fibrosis)? Bingo! Stars Jughead from Riverdale (who was also one part of the amazing duo that is Frankenstein from Big Daddy).
WONDER PARK
From Paramount, which hasn't really done animation before (Transformers?) - besides marketing other companies' and a couple Spongebob movies with Nickelodeon. Their first attempt looks... like a first attempt (and not the Pixar kind, unfortunately). All the normal animation stereotypes (zany talking animals, emotional lesson) set in a theme park activated by imagination.

THE MUSTANG
First off, this one has really strong early reviews. It's more of that subtle "character study" type - about a convict who's relationship with a young stallion allows him to learn more about himself. Also noteworthy that it's produced by Robert Redford (who knows his equines).
SHAZAM!
April 5, 2019
Second trailer. Kinda like the superhero version of Tom Hank's BIG. Note: this is a DC superhero (aka not Marvel), but not real clear if it's connected to things like Superman/Batman/WW/Aquaman - doesn't seeeeem like it.
