Floors that are somehow STILL STICKY. 🚷

"Excuse me.
Don't bogart that can... man."
Ya know, shit is preeeetty weird right now. And while that may cause some to *ahem* distance themselves from that weirdness. I say let's embrace it. Let's go full freakin weirdo.
And in that spirit, you will find a host of cult classics that are odd, pretty bonkers, and for some, off-putting options to vote for in next week's Does it Hold Up? series (although not as off-putting as it could have been - Pink Flamingos apparently isn't available to stream anywhere 🙁).
It's your choice, so choose wisely - and choose weirdly.
As for last week's entry, Amélie. I watched it with two other people; one who'd seen it and another who hadn't (I had, but only once). For the person who hadn't seen it, it didn't quite work - they said maybe the time of life, maybe the characterizations that have been aped elsewhere. For the person who had, they still loved it - made them feel That's the fun thing about movies though eh? They stay the same, while we... well, you know.
This week's race; boooy was it tight. So tight that there was a tie! (a first) - between Bullitt and Gattaca. I was going to flip and a coin, but thought, naaaah....
...this is way better.
Addendums!
Voting for the Does It Hold Up? entries apparently hasn't been clear, but hopefully is now. After each movie there's a link to vote for your pick - so click it! But please, only vote once (I left it open so you don't have to login to Google).
Trailers for most major movies have been put on hold, but there are few for "smaller" movies that are sneaking out, e.g.
- A musical Valley Girl remake
- The purported last entry in Steve Coogan's The Trip series
- Tom Hardy in a late life Al Capone biopic titled simply Capone
- Indie sci-fi movie Proximity directed by an effects artist who worked on Stranger Things and Tron: Legacy (it shows)

BULLITT
(1968)
PG / 1 hr 54 mins
Warner Bros. / RT: 97% (37 reviews)
Smell that? ....? Oooooh, right. This is an email and they can't transmit scents. (2021? 🤷♂️) But if you could smell the proverbial "that," it would be rubber - cuz you know damn well lots of it is going to be torn, scraped, ripped and oh yes, most definitely burned over the course of two hours.
Ok, yeah yeah yeah, you get it, there's gonna be car chases, but like, what else huh? Some pulpy dialogue? Likely. An authority be damned attitude? Forecast for today says it's a high probability folks. A figure of masculinity that is still desired to this day, but probably a bit harmful in its quashing of male emotions? Do you need toilet paper more than you ever thought you'd need toilet paper; to wit, good chance. Cuz this is a movie from the 60s with one of the coolest of the old school tough guys. But hey, I've never seen Bullitt, so these are some educated guesses I'm making. But maybe I'll be proven wrong. And yeah, it may bother me a bit. But if you ask me, I'll never let it show. Cuz that's just what us cool guys do.
*insert audible guffaw from anyone who knows me here*
Note: other options were Gattaca, The Crow, & Body Heat.
FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL!
(1965)
Originally considered to be misogynist schlock, has come to be considered a feminist classic and John Waters has said it's the best movie ever made. So yeah, it's got some cred, but... does it hold up?
THE ROCKY HORROR
PICTURE SHOW
(1975)
This movie has been playing at midnight in theaters across the country for decades. So yeah, it holds up for a lot of people. But, and this is key... does it hold up for you?
ERASERHEAD
(1981)
Ok, you wanna get weird? Let's get weird. As in a guy getting a girl pregnant and his fear of parenting manifests in his baby being a lizard creature... weird. I mean, it's David Lynch so of course it's gotta hold up.... right?
THE ADVENTURES
OF BUCKAROO BANZAI
ACROSS THE 8TH DIMENSION
(1984)
Starring Peter Weller (aka Robocop) and a cowboy outfit laden Jeff Goldbum. That should be enough, but let's as the rough plot outline from Wikipedia... "centers on the efforts of polymath Dr. Buckaroo Banzai, a physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and musician, to save the world by defeating a band of inter-dimensional aliens called Red Lectroids from Planet 10." I mean, sounds radtacular, but like... does it hold up?
