"Not quite my tempo. "
PINNED: this newsletter started as a way to highlight movies coming to theaters (see: the name). Then, "the bullshit" happened. And I started featuring movies in theaters, VOD or streaming (see: the +). Point is, if there's a movie worth checking out, you'll probably find it here.
On a trip somewhere with my gf's family, so no ranting today.
Where? You inquire nosily.
As if I'm going to tell you.
jk, it's Hilton Head.
Extra Credit Movies:
Along for the Ride: Netflix summer rooooooom-commmmmmmm. Girl works too hard in school, visits her dad in her last summer before college, meets boy. You know what it is. No reviews, but you don't need 'em, you just need the right attitude. Streaming on Netflix, Friday.
Marmaduke: a movie made for eight year olds. Do you have an eight year old? The reviews are guaranteed to be exactly as you expect them to be. Streaming on Netflix, Friday.
DOCTOR STRANGE
IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS
It's the twenty-eighth MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie. We're well beyond me explaining it all to you.
That's why Wikipedia exists.
All I can really do at this point is share snippets. Like how Strange 2 was directed by Sam Raimi, who actually kicked off the modern superhero movie way back 2002 with the first Spider-Man - it was the first movie to break the $100 million in its opening weekend (even adjusting for inflation). But Raimi got his start directing horror movies, most notably the classic (for damn good reason) Evil Dead series. Raimi has always infused a bit of the macabre and weird into his stuff. Reviews say he gets a way with a bit here and there, but by and large, this is still "a Marvel movie." And with it comes the need to understand a veeeeery long backstory.
The other big noteworthy thing here is since the movie deals with multiple dimensions, it allows for literally anyone to join the MCU. And it's at this point I'll remind you that Disney bought 20th Century Fox a few years ago, and they held the rights to the X-Men characters (among others). Sooooooooo.
That's it, that's all I got for you.
Oh, and for those who know, you can bank on a Bruce Campbell cameo (or two).
Vibe: Marvel, with a horror (lite) twist

Don't Worry Darling, I know it seems like the world is coming to an end, like it appears to be in Jurassic World Dominion - if only we could train the dinosaurs to eat the "right" people.
Bug if it gets bad enough, we can all go along when Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. It's not perfect there, but at least they understand some key tenets of basic morality.
The alternative is just to say fuck it, go a little crazy and act super Weird. But until then, it's ok if you just want to curl up on the couch and nuzzle your Super-Pets. Cuz lets be honest, all pets are super.
